What are the participation requirements?
The minimum age is 18 years (at the beginning of classes). There is no maximum age limit. You also need a valid registration at a university.
How can I register?
You can register for the summer course online on our website. After completing and sending the online registration, you will receive a confirmation email with a summary of your booking and the payment details. Payment is due within one week after registration. Your course place is only guaranteed upon receipt of the course fee(s).
When is the registration deadline?
The registration deadline is 20 June 2020 or when the course is fully booked.
How can I pay?
Payment is via bank transfer. The bank details and your booking reference number are included in the confirmation email. Payment is due within one week after registration. If we have not received your payment by that deadline, your registration will be cancelled automatically.
Do I need a visa?
For visa regulations, please check the website of the Federal Foreign Office
Important: Most visa applications take between 6 weeks to 3 months to be processed. You will need to submit documentation of your medical insurance and the original copy of your course participation confirmation (no e-mail or fax) with your visa application. So please make sure that you register early enough.
Do I get a participation confirmation/visa letter for my visa application?
Once we have received payment of your course fee(s), we are happy to issue a participation confirmation for visa purposes. We will send the original copy of the participation confirmation with regular mail (no tracking available). Depending on which country your are from, delivery might take up to 3 weeks. If you would like to have the letter sent to you with express delivery at your expense, please let us know.
Do I need medical insurance?
Yes, medical insurance for the duration of your stay in Germany is mandatory. The course organiser does not provide medical insurance for you.
Is there a placement test? /How does course allocation work?
There is no placement test. Course allocation is determined on the basis of your chosen language level. Final course allocation will be determined in the beginning of classes. Course changes are possible in individual cases and in agreement with the teachers and the course organisers.
Is attendance mandatory?
Yes, attendance is mandatory during the entire course programme (language classes and cultural programme such as guided tours). If you miss more than 10% of the programme, a certificate cannot be issued,
What happens if I miss class?
If you cannot attend classes, you need to submit a medical certificate from a doctor. Please also inform the course organisers (e-mail, telephone), otherwise you will be listed as absent.
Important - scholarship holders of BAYHOST/BTHA/DAAD: for you, participation is mandatory in the entire course programme (classes and cultural programme). Therefore, your scholarship organisation will be informed of any missed language classes or cultural programme.
What will be final exam be like?
At the end of the summer course, you will sit a final exam. The final exam will cover both the language classes and the cultural programme.
Can I take a language examination at the end of the course (DSH, TestDaF)?
No. At the end of the summer course there will be a course-related final exam. This exam is no substitute for an official language examination.
Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?
You will receive a certificate at the end of the course if you
- have successfully passed the final exam
- have not missed more than 10% of the course programme
- have contributed regularly in class and completed the homeworks/assignments.
The certificate includes the title and dates of the course, the language level you have attended, the number of teaching units as well as the grades of your final exam.
What happens if I do not pass the final exam?
If you do not pass the final exam, you will receive a participation confirmation.
Do you offer scholarships?
The course organiser itself does not offer any scholarships. For more information on funding opportunities please check here
How much money will I need for my stay in Würzburg?
That differs depending on your individual needs. 10 - 15 Euros per day should be sufficient to cover all basic expenses. Please bear in mind that there might also be additional expenses for trips, leisure activities and bus/rail tickets.
Summer Course: when do I need to arrive/depart?
The following arrival and departure times are binding:
Arrival: 1 August 2020, 10-18 o'clock | Departure: 28 August 2020, 8-10 o'clock (a.m.)
Arrival and departure is not possible outside these hours. In case of delayed train/bus/plance connections, please contact us on our emergency hotline. The accommodation is available for the duration of the course only.
Can I also arrive earlier / depart later?
Check-in and check-out is only possible during the hours mentioned above. In case of delayed travel connections, please contact us on our emergency hotline. Please note: the accommodation is available for the duration of the course only. If you plan to arrive earlier or depart later than that, you will need to arrange accommodation yourself.
What should I do if my train/flight/bus is delayed?
On the day of arrival, you can contact our emergency hotline.
Will there be airport/train station pick up?
On the day of arrival, a staff member will meet you at Würzburg main station between 10 a.m. - 18 p.m. Airport pick-up from Frankfurt Airport or Nuremburg Airport is possible on demand and at additional costs (minimum number of 10 persons).
Does the course organiser provide accommodation?
A limited number of accommodations can be provided (e.g. in student dorms, guest houses). The accommodations may vary in location, price and furnishings. A place in the accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
How do I get into my accommodation on the day of arrival?
On the day of arrival, a staff member will meet you at Würzburg main station between 10-18 o'clock. You will receive your room key from our member of staff. Should you arrive outside these hours due to delays, please contact us as soon as possible on our emergency number.
What do the accommodation costs consist of?
The accommodation costs consist of the rent and a security deposit. The security deposit is refunded if your return your room in a clean and tidy condition and without damage. If there is any damage in your room or if anything does not function properly please let us know immediately.
Do I need to bring towels and bedlinen? How are the rooms equipped?
This varies between the different dorms/guest houses. Detailed information will be provided when it is clear where you will be accommodated.
Generally, pillows, duvets, sheets and bedlinen will be provided by us.
The following items are not provided and you will need to bring them or buy them here: dishes/cutlery, towels, irons, hairdryers, kettle, pots/pans, soap/cleaning products, toilet paper.
Does the accommodation have internet access?
This depends on the individual accommodation and there may be differences between accommodations (no internet, LAN, wifi). You will have wifi access on campus.
Are there washing machines in the accommodation?
This depends on the individual accommodation. Not all accommodations have laundry facilities. There are several launderettes in Wuerzburg - addresses and directions will be provided in the information package.
Are there cooking facilities in the accommodation?
This depends on the individual accommodation and there may be differences between accommodations. Not all accommodations have cooking facilities.
Is parking available at the
There are no designated parking spaces available at the accommodation. Please use the public parking spaces in Wuerzburg. For parking in the city centre, fees usually apply. Here is an overview of parking in Wuerzburg (German only).
How much is food at the university canteens and cafeterias?
A lunch dish is between 2 and 5 Euros. Sandwiches and rolls are about 2 Euros, a regular coffee is about 1 Euro.
Are vegetarian/vegan dishes available in the canteen?
Yes. Each day, there is a selection of at least one vegetarian/vegan dish.
Do I get a a pass for public transport?
Yes, a monthly pass for public transport (bus, tram) in Wuerzburg is included in the course fee and will be provided upon arrival.
Where can I do sports? / Are there gyms?
There a number of of public outdoor sports facilities, parks or the shores of the Main river where you can do sports. Private gyms usually offer only contracts for several months and can be quite expensive. In some dorms, there is a small gym, but not all dorms/guest houses have such facilities. You also have access to the university's sports facilities on campus.
Which payment methods are accepted in German shops?
In small shops (e.g. bakery) you will need to pay in cash. Larger shops and supermarkets usually accept debit cards. Not all shops accept credit cards, though.
